Man In Witness-Protection Program Found Dead
Salvadore Moro, who recently had relocated to San Leon to join the US Marshall's witness protection program, was found dead in his garage January 6th by a former business associate. Moro was best known for being the mastermind of a 1990 plot to rob coin-operated pay toilets. He was apprehended after being trapped in one of the toilets, and was facing up to $50 in fines when he turned states evidence. Prosecutors agreed to waive a parking fine after Moro helped them obtain evidence in an expired vehicle registration case. He also led detectives to a site near Pasadena where a missing cat was found buried in a shallow grave. DNA evidence later implicated a local pickup truck in the death. His testimony in a 1999 Laundering case implicated a Chinese laundry owner in Houston. After entering the program, Moro obtained a sex-change operation and became an exotic dancer. He worked under the name Donatella Nobodi, until his death. While dancing, Moro continued to assist law enforcement by using a sting operation in which he would tell suspects he would "do anything for a joint", and then turn them in for possession of weed.
According to police reports, Moro was discovered with his hands tied behind his back, a bullet wound to the back of his head, and hanging from a meathook. Autopsy results indicated that he had ingested poison, and both of his wrists had been cut. Tony Vendetti, a former crime associate of Moro's, claimed he discovered the body when he came by to "pay him a little visit". These circumstances have caused family members to suspect foul play, however police are calling the case a suicide.
