SIGN VIOLATOR APPREHENDED -
SUSPECTS ESCAPE

KEMAH - A report of a reckless pedestrian at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday March 29 led to a 47-year-old Kemah man's arrest for violating the sign ordinance. Police got a call of a redheaded guy staggering recklessly on Highway 146. By the time officers were able to respond, the man had met a female, married, and grown a beard to conceal his identity. However police noticed that the man was driving a stolen Pontiac Firebird. Officers wasted no time adding the man to their list of suspects in the theft of the vehicle.
Police asked permission to search the vehicle and were denied.
Using flashlights to look through the car windows, officers saw four marijuana cigarettes and three partially-burned marijuana cigarettes in a plastic bag. They also saw a zipper bag with two bags of marijuana, a cigarette rolling device and weighing scales. The man admitted the drugs were his. In the man's back pocket, officers found a cardholder with razor blades, mirror and traces of a white powdery substance. Officers considered these circumstances to be suspicious, and were considering making an arrest when suddenly one of them noticed an illegal campaign sign being posted across the street. As officers raced across the street to respond, the car zoomed off heading south.
Meanwhile, police busted Bailey Heathcoat of League City for failing to abide by the city's new sign law which requires all political signs to be exactly 3,671 mm apart.
Police are seeking the driver of the car as a witness in the sign case. Three people in the passenger seat and six people in the back seat are also wanted for questioning.
