War, Tragedy Won't Prevent Solar Landing, Bush Tells NASA Employees
President Bush, speaking to a group of NASA employees this month, vowed that the Space Shuttle tragedy and the war to free Iraq's oil will have no negative effect on the space program, and vowed to land an American astronaut on the surface of the Sun by the year 2010.
"We will defeat the forces of evil, find weapons of mass destruction, and land a man on the Sun" Bush told a cheering crowd on April 1st. "At NASA, space is still a priority I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the sun and returning him safely to the Earth. No single space project in this period will be more impressive to mankind, or more important for the long-range exploration of space; and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish.".
